Education at the Museum: translation as educational practice

ABSTRACT
The Museu de Arte do Rio de Janeiro (MAR/RJ) has a Visitors Program, which aims to welcome schools, students, teachers, visitors and the public in general, with educational actions proposed by the educators of the Escola do Olhar. Thus, this paper is written in agreement with the aims to analyze how educators' practices may be able to take the original text presented by MAR’s curators and artists, but at the same time recreate it, through a translation process, that is carried out during the planning of educational actions. The analysis of the interviews done by educators of the Museum, uses the translation method. In this way, it is affirmed that the translation processes carried out by the educators articulate them with knowledge from the art exhibition and, above all, refute the conception of education as the only transmission of the original content. Assuming that the theoretical contribution of literal translation in Brazil through the poet and translator Haroldo de Campos and the dialogue with education, with the theories of Sandra Mara Corazza and other authors are correct, this writing is understood to be the translation process of transformation pertaining to the original content. Finally, it is considered that the MAR educators’ educational practices make it possible to renounce teaching work as a submissive transmitter of original texts. Thus, subvert the mere repetition of a curatorial discourse of the artist's speech, in other words they have proposed the reinvention of art education.
