Abstract

This experience report discusses academic tutoring as an enriching tool in the teaching-learning process. Based on William Glasser's Learning Pyramid Theory, the study highlights the importance of tutoring in knowledge retention, emphasizing that teaching is one of the most effective ways to learn.

The experience took place in the Anatomy course at the University of Extremo Sul Catarinense, where a nursing student served as a tutor, assisting approximately 100 students from the Bachelor's in Nursing, Nursing Technician, Autopsy Technician, and Massage Therapy Technician programs. The activities were supervised by a faculty advisor with a degree in Biomedicine and were conducted both practically, in laboratories, and theoretically, in classrooms, on Saturdays during the first semester of 2023.

Tutoring not only reinforced the studied content but also significantly contributed to the tutor's intellectual and personal development, aiding in knowledge consolidation and overcoming challenges. Additionally, it prepared the tutor for various situations that may arise in the workplace, especially in the healthcare field, where confidence and mastery of knowledge are essential.

Furthermore, the exchange of knowledge in a multidisciplinary environment broadened the understanding of different teaching perspectives and the practical application of content. This experience proved to be a transformative process, benefiting both the tutor and the students, fostering autonomy, critical thinking, and essential skills for academic training and future professional practice.
