Abstract

A challenge in institutional and governmental action in Brazil is the lack of information related to clinical research centers (CPCs) in Brazil: how many are there, where are they located, how are they distributed in the country? The overall aim of this research is to apply a method for mapping Brazilian CPCs. The proposed method followed a qualitative approach, exploring clinical research databases. The main database was the Clinical Trials website, which stores information on clinical trials issued and underway in each country or region. With the support of digital tools, 1,471 sites carrying out clinical research in Brazil were identified. In this way, it was possible to locate the CPCS geographically, making it easier to know their distribution, occurrences, and numbers. The use and interpretation of the data obtained can contribute to understanding the national panorama through the concentration of CPCs and evidence of regional disparities. It can encourage new academic research and serve as a reference for institutional and governmental decisions aimed, for example, at meeting local needs and problems, thus adding value to society.
