Abstract

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world. Drug treatment does not cure the pathology, but it works by delaying and reducing symptoms. However, they eventually result in side effects such as impulse control disorders. Diet is one of the factors that can be influenced during the treatments used. Which can result in greater intake and lack of control over daily meals. The present work aims to evaluate whether the medicines most used in the treatment of PD have links with the emergence of dietary changes in humans. The methodology used consisted of an integrative literature review. Analyzing the results, it is possible to verify a trend in the use of Dopamine Agonists (DA) and/or Levodopa, related to the increase in adipose tissue, whether the drugs are used in combination or not. The negative effects can be so large that they have the potential to help with the onset of binge eating disorder (BED). Therefore, to minimize damage to the individual's health, it is necessary to monitor the possible evolution of dietary changes caused by pharmacological treatments for PD, evaluating the need to change the treatment, in addition to the work of health professionals, such as nutritionists and psychologists to avoid a scenario of obesity.
