EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF NEONATAL MORTALITY BETWEEN 2011 AND 2021 IN SANTA CATARINA

Abstract

The neonatal mortality is defined as infant death before the first 28 days after birth, beingclassified as early neonatal death in those who happen until the 7th day of life, and as late neonatal death in those between the 7th and 27th day of life. Acknowleging theepidemiological profile of the nenonatal deaths and the maternal demage in the period from2011 to 2021 in the state of Santa Catarina. An epidemiological descriptive retrospectivestudy, using data available on datasus. In the studied period, there were 7.431 neonatal deaths. Analyzing the age range, 36,87% happened in the first 24h after birth. According togender, 55,40% were male. According to birth weight, 32,11% had between 500 and 999g. According to maternal data, 20,89% moms were between 25 and 29 years old. Analyzing theeducation of these Woman, 46,91% accomplished 8 to 11 years of study. According to theduration of the pregnancy, 31,92% kept between 22 to 27 weeks. At last, according to thebirth way 52,83% were c-sections. That way, is noticible, the increase of the neonatal mortality is related to the early age and low weight in birth. There were no significantdiference between the epidemiological profile of these deaths in the years of the study. As thematernal data, is noticed that are more neonatal deaths related to the birth between 22 and 27 months of pregnancy.
