Abstract

Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cancer and the ninth leading cause of death in women, and survival affected by late diagnosis. The etiology of these tumors is not well understood and the most are secondary to other gynecological tissues. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the anatomopathological profile of ovarian neoplastic lesions in patients undergoing oophorectomy in a pathology clinic. This is a descriptive observational study, with secondary data collection and a quantitative approach, carried out in a private pathology clinic in a city in the extreme south of Santa Catarina. A total of 1490 anatomopathological exams of women submitted to oophorectomy were evaluated. However, based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the final sample resulted in 514 results between the years 2015 to 2020. In the analyzed biopsies, 40.1% of the women were aged between 21 and 40 years. Among the histological types described, mature teratoma was the main one found, representing 35.0%, followed by benign serous tumor with 29.4%. In addition, the type of benignity surpassed that of malignancy. The present study intends to facilitate an early diagnosis of these disorders, in order to provide a better prognosis and quality of life, in addition to collaborating with the etiology, which until then, was not very well understood. Partially differing from the literature, the results found were women between 21 and 40 years of age and with the histological type of mature teratoma.
