Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that requires specific care, particularly in the perioperative context, where challenges such as sensory hypersensitivity, the need for structured routines, and communication difficulties become evident. This article presents a review focusing on the challenges and necessary adaptations for perioperative management of these patients, highlighting strategies to optimize the hospital environment, the use of emerging technologies, and caregiver involvement. It also underscores the importance of technological advances, such as virtual reality, and evidence-based protocols for pain control and stress reduction.

Keywords: Autism Spectrum Disorder, perioperative management, hospital adaptations, virtual reality, pain control.
