Abstract

This article addresses the use of audiovisual materials by teachers from different areas of knowledge working in three state schools located in southern Minas Gerais, in order to investigate the role of audiovisual resources in high school pedagogical practices. The main objectives are to diagnose the use of audiovisual resources by some high school teachers in the state system and make propositions about the importance of audiovisual theory and practice as a pedagogical competency. The methodology used is qualitative exploratory, and Bardin's content analysis was applied for data analysis, which includes categorical analysis, divided into six categories: Criteria for choosing audiovisual materials; Knowledge of audiovisual language; Purposes of use; Audiovisual production by students; Challenges and needs; and Audiovisual as an artistic mediator and knowledge production tool. The theoretical framework encompasses authors such as Benjamin (1985), Flusser (2011), Duarte (2002), Morán (1995), Migliorin (2019), Napolitano (2003), among others, in dialogue with the testimonies collected in the interviews. This work serves as an instrument for listening to and disseminating practices of audiovisual use in high school classrooms, the challenges and difficulties faced by teachers, as well as suggestions for improving working conditions, so that audiovisual usage practices can be truly effective in the teaching-learning process of students in the state education system.
