Abstract

This paper presents a proposal reading for Ana Terra's E o dente ainda doía is guided by historical-cultural theory. Situating reading as a historically and socially constructed phenomenon, this approach emphasizes its pivotal role in fostering higher-order psychological functions. Literary texts are regarded as linguistically crafted entities demanding and enabling specific reading practices, while books are recognized as culturally situated artifacts embedded within their historical context, shaped by genre and medium-specific characteristics. Additionally, this framework acknowledges the reader's agency in the reading process and the teacher's mediating role in facilitating text/book engagement. By examining the interplay between reader, text, and context, this approach demonstrates the reading experience as a dynamic, interactive process.
