A obra “A razão neoliberal: economias barrocas e pragmática popular”, objeto desta análise, foi publicada em 2018 pela editora Elefante, com tradução de Igor Peres. O título original, em espanhol, “La razón neoliberal: economias barrocas y pragmática popular”, foi publicado em 2014 na Argentina. A autora Verónica Gago nasceu em 1976, naquele mesmo país e é doutora em ciências sociais, além de professora da Universidade de Buenos Aires (UBA), da Universidade de San Martín (Unsam) e pesquisadora do Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Técnicas (CONICET).
O contexto da obra é a economia informal e os bairros periféricos de Buenos Aires, marcados pela presença de imigrantes bolivianos, em que, a partir dos estudos de tais dinâmicas, a autora debate o enraizamento do neoliberalismo nas subjetividades populares e sua persistência na América Latina.
