Since the mid-twentieth century, the territory of the State of Santa Catarina has witnessed a demographic increase as a result of vegetative growth and migratory movements. However, at the beginning of the 21st century, there is a spatial redistribution of migratory flows towards the coast of the State. This article intends to present and correlate the approach of theories of territory with the dynamics of migration in Santa Catarina at the present time, focusing, more specifically, on the littoralization process in the municipality of Balneário Camboriú. To follow the trajectory of immigrants, the work sought to analyze sources of demographic data, both from the IBGE censuses (from the 1980s onwards), as well as SIDRA/IBGE sources, with the aim of verifying the demographic transformations on the coast of Santa Catarina. In this way, the article seeks to understand the demographic evolution of the municipality of Balneário Camboriú - supported by theories of the territory and starting from a territorial approach - demonstrating how the municipality has consolidated itself as a pole of population attraction stimulated mainly by economic reasons such as tourism, trade and construction.
