Abstract

Agricultural cooperatives remain key actors in the rural landscape of Entre Ríos. This study examines the continued relevance of cooperative principles in a group of cooperatives, identifying tensions related to competition, scaling, and the increasing commodification of the agri-food system. Based on interviews, the analysis shows how these principles support the adaptation, growth, and transformation of these organizations within an economy shaped by the market and global-scale actors.

For more than 30 years, I have conducted research on management practices aimed at improving crop yields, employing approaches at different scales, from the gene to the field. Since 2016, my work has focused on foresight studies for sustainable rural development. I currently lead a multidisciplinary and inter-institutional futures studies group dedicated to analyzing sociotechnical transitions based on the convergence of science, production, environment, and society.
