Abstract

The National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) established guidelines for waste management and included waste pickers in shared responsibility. This article analyzes the relationships between Comcap and waste picker associations in Florianópolis, based on Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory. Drawing on interviews and document analysis, the findings indicate a recycling market shaped by disputes, power asymmetries, and inequalities in the implementation of the PNRS.

PhD candidate in Sociology at PPGSP/UFSC. CNPq scholarship holder. Research line: Work, Market, State, and Financial System. Research in Economic Sociology, with an emphasis on the market for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in Brazil, based on the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS).
Master’s degree in Sociology from PPGSP/UFSC. Dissertation: Between Waste Pickers and Experts: disputes surrounding the recycling of electrical and electronic waste in Florianópolis. Research line: Work, Market, State, and Financial System.
