Abstract

Brazil, family farmers were pioneers in the production of poultry. The first productions focused on subsistence, and what was surplus was sold, respecting the traditional logic of family farming. The arrival of industries in the country, the development of the integration system, and the sector's growth have directly affected the poultry families' way of producing. A structure that was initially controlled, conducted, and commercialized by family farmers, in a non-capitalist reproduction model, through the integration system, was incorporated to the industry, changing the whole poultry production process. In this context, this text aims to describe the poultry production in Brazil, within the integrated systems, as well as to analyze the production costs in Santa Catarina and the responsibilities demanded to each of the parties, industry and producer.
